Moving Company Lead Generation
Every service on this site is a component. This page is about how they assemble into a system that produces booked moves at a cost you can defend, and gets you off the broker treadmill.
Four Stages, and Most Companies Only Buy One
Capture. Create. Convert. Follow up. Most moving companies we talk to are purchasing stage one from a broker and neglecting the other three entirely.
Capture is getting in front of people searching right now. Map pack, organic rankings, Local Services Ads, search ads. Highest intent, shortest path to booking. This is where the first dollar should always go, and it is the stage brokers have monetized precisely because it is the most valuable.
Create is generating demand from people who were not actively looking yet. Meta ads, apartment complex targeting, seasonal and off-season campaigns, referral partner development. More expensive per lead, and it is how you fill the shoulder months.
Convert is what happens once they arrive. Site speed, quote flow, click-to-call, trust signals, price transparency. Nearly free to improve, and it multiplies the return on everything upstream. Also the stage almost universally neglected, because nobody sells it to you as a channel.
Follow up is speed to lead, quote nurture, missed-call text-back, and reactivation. Most moving companies lose more revenue here than anywhere else, and it is the cheapest place to recover it.
A system doing all four beats a company spending twice as much on purchased leads alone. Every time.
What a Complete Lead Generation System Includes
Measurement spine
Call tracking with dynamic number insertion, conversion tracking, and CRM integration, installed before any spend. Every lead attributed to a source and followed through to booked or lost.
Owned capture channels
Google Business Profile, map pack, organic rankings, and your own site. The assets that keep producing after the invoice stops and cannot be resold to a competitor.
Paid capture channels
Local Services Ads and search on the high-intent terms, because waiting for SEO alone would cost you a year of moves.
Demand creation
Meta campaigns, complex and neighborhood targeting, off-season flexible-date offers, and referral partner programs with agents and property managers.
Conversion layer
Fast site, progressive quote flow, multiple contact paths, transparent pricing, and trust signals that answer the fear driving this purchase.
Follow-up automation
60-second speed to lead, missed-call text-back, multi-touch quote nurture, and reactivation against your unclosed estimate list.
Owned Leads vs Broker Leads, Honestly
Broker leads have one real advantage: they work immediately, which is not nothing when trucks are sitting idle. But you pay per lead forever, the same lead is usually sold to your competitors at the same moment, you cannot control quality, and you build no asset. Owned channels take months and then produce at declining marginal cost indefinitely. The right move is not to quit buying leads tomorrow. It is to build the owned side while you buy, then taper.
The Only Four Numbers That Matter
Most moving companies cannot answer these. The ones that can make dramatically better decisions.
- Cost per lead by channel. Not blended. By channel. Blended cost per lead hides the fact that one channel produces $25 leads and another produces $95 leads.
- Lead-to-booked-move rate by channel. This is where the surprises live. Broker leads typically convert at a fraction of the rate of a direct inbound call, because you are one of four companies calling. Without this number, cost per lead is actively misleading.
- Cost per booked move by channel. Numbers one and two combined. This is the number that should drive every budget decision, and almost nobody tracks it.
- Average revenue and margin by move type and channel. A channel producing cheap apartment jobs and a channel producing long distance moves are not comparable, and treating them as if they were leads directly to underfunding your most profitable source.
Everything we build starts by making these four numbers visible, usually inside the first two weeks. It is not glamorous, and it routinely changes where a company spends its money more than any campaign we launch afterward.
